about

Irish Folk Sound. This song practically wrote its self early one morning. I woke up and heard the train on the north end of the farm and thought about the river on the south boundary. Years ago Native Americans, outlaws and possibly runaway slaves hid out and ran the river trail. Got up out of bed, made some coffee and within and hour or so this song flowed out.

Deep Underground

© 2018 By: Lloyd Mark Sutton

Winding trails down by the river,
Smell of a cook’s smoke deep in the woods.
Distant train tracks are a clickety-clacking,
I want to go home if only I could.

For many odd years I’ve been a running,
From all of the things they say I have done.
I’m lonely and tired no shoulder to lean on,
If someone’s to blame I’d be the one.

Full moon a rising over the tree tops,
Ghostly song of a lone hoot owl.
Silent streak of a falling star a falling,
I want to go home but I don’t know how.

Morning comes the trackers a tracking,
Ahead of the first sign of daylight.
Hounds a hunting a scent to follow,
Got a keep moving, got a stay out of sight.

Another day gone and I'm still a standing,
Hold up tonight in an old hobo camp.
On and on this path has no ending,
I want to go home but I know that I can't.

One day my life will finally be over,
They'll carry me off and lay me down.
Will anyone know the truth of my story?
When all that’s left is deep underground.
